VanDyke doesn't care much for his jewelry - that is the "gentle lead" around his nose that goes under his chin and connects behind his ears on top of his head. The Gentle Lead does not hurt him nor prohibit him from full range of mouth functions (e.g., he can eat with it on) but does provide a more gentle way to get his attention when working with the puppy trainers and raisers. At 55 lb. and all muscle the alternative would be a traditional collar and leash with lots of aggressive pulling and tugging. This way, even a small hundred pound woman can easily navigate with the most boisterous of the beasts. |
